Kia Ora team, long time no stories, for that I am sorry. Let me summarise the ultimate training plan that has been unfolding since the last post:
September 2016 – We wrapped up the China event season with an awesome 3rd at the WengAn race after the horrific setbacks in the weeks preceding.
October 2016 – Wrapped up the Diploma in Outdoor Instruction and Guiding in Greymouth and moved to Christchurch, the hub/HQ for Coast to Coast training.
Since then I have been training full time with some occasional multisport kayak instructing/guiding through the reputable TopSport kayaking company.
It’s been an exciting few months, with the focus primarily on training and recovery and the gains have been overwhelming. Despite the almost non existent income (instructing) I have ensured my living is of high quality (living off a rapidly decreasing savings). Great house, great food, great nutrition, massages, ice baths, great coaching, driving long distances if I have to to ensure every session is of the best quality, hot stretch classes, saunas/cold showers, and even testing out some specialist high altitude training now too!
Cycling points to note: I now have a power-meter (ongoing hate/love relationship) and I’m finally comfortable on the TT bike and holding the aero position for long periods of time….
My kayaking, running and cycling is ALL faster than ever and I’m pretty damn excited about it.
There are endless people to train with here in Chch and it makes the difference.
I just need to make sure now I don’t peak too early or let fatigue get the better of me – Feeling pretty healthy!
Stay tuned to Facebook for updates. FTW.
